Maternity dress pants

With  6 more weeks of work left I realized I was going to need some dress pants that are big-belly friendly. However, I wasn't willing to spend $40 bucks on maternity dress pants that I would use for maybe 5 weeks. So I converted some old dress pants!

What I used?
Old Dress Pants with a broken zipper
A pair of old leggings from my mission (the secret to success as a bike sister!)
 1. Cut off the top of the waist band like so. Zip up the zipper, sew it closed, or rip it out, your choice.
 2. Cut off the top of the spandex leggings (back view) leaving a panel in the front.
 3. With right sides together, pin the panel piece to the pants (back view)
 4. Front view of pinning. Pinning tip: Mark the front, back, and sides of the panel piece. Then pin the back first (use the tag as a center guide), then the front, then the two sides. From there, pin half way between those pins...and inward until the pins are about 1 inch apart. You may have to stretch the panel to make it work.
 5. Stitch 1/4 inch seam around. You can choose your seam width. I needed 1/4 inch since I did not have a lot of extra fabric to work with.
 6. Finish seam with a serger

Finished version!!!
These things are so comfortable...its like wearing sweats all day!
I knew those old mission leggings would come in handy!
Note: I was able to use a pair of maternity pants (thanks to my friend Leah) as a guide for sizing the panel section. I highly suggest using a maternity pants as a guide...or just eye-ball it!
Wah-lah...maternity dress pants in 30 minutes!
GOOD LUCK!!!
